M2 NVMe Support on AXON

Hello everyone,
Just cross-posting from discord:
I asked to know more about M2 NVMe support as I see a Gen2 slot on Axon and if it has to be of a specific form factor 2230/2242/2280. Here’s the guide pasted by @Akshar from the discord:

It supports, 2280 for now.

Please feel to update the answer.

  • fProg
  • The M.2 connector uses PCIe Gen 3 x4 lanes (which is backward compatible with older PCIe versions).
  • It can work with any M-Key NVMe module regardless of its physical sizes, but only sits 2280 modules by default.
  • I’ve tried using 2230 & 2242 NVMe modules with 3D printed brackets, and had no issues
  • On my benchmarks during yesterday’s livestream, it gave 1.5GBps read speed with a Crucial P3 1TB PCIe Gen 3 NVMe drive

NOTE: the PCIe Gen 2.1 lanes are available through the FPC connectors. The NVMe connector is PCIe Gen 3.

Or you can use something like this,

@debloper yes, crucial is sonething i can recommend as well.
